The Highland Cow is known for its fluffy fur and outstanding horns. These cattle come from Scotland and are the oldest known breed of cattle in the world. From their appearance to what they eat is what you will find in this short segment of Highland cow facts.
Highland cows have an outstanding amount of fur that is classified into two layers: the undercoat and the outercoat. This cow fur can come in all different types of colors from silver to yellow. This thick coat allows them to survive very low temperatures like -18° Fahrenheit. They live in the grasslands of Scotland but can be found in North America and Europe as well. Highland cows forage for their food by using their strong horns in the winter to dig through the snow. They usually graze on grass, vegetation, and stems. Though the global population of these cows is not known, the US and Canada are estimated to have 11,000 in total. If you ever try to visit these fluffy animals, they are known for being very friendly to strangers and humans.
